Nothing but static...

What static driven events have you written up for Lacuna? (not in any order)
  • The Dog Walker passes by and chats with the Agents. The dog (or dogs) is always different and sometimes its behavior is more than a little odd.
  • All the birds in the City take flight at the same time.
  • A helicopter crashes and burns. There are no helicopters in Blue City. Who or what brought it into existance?
  • All the citizens look up at the sky, find nothing, and return to their routines.
  • The color complete fades from Blue City, except for blood, that remains bright red.
  • A nearby radio changes stations on its own, the song now playing somehow relates to the current mission.

    The way I would do static would be to write up a big list of vague, creepy sounding things drawn from random [CLASSIFIED] articles, then write it all down in the following manner, and then every time static increased, I would throw in a random, creepy static event relating to one of the words I came up with. It's also interesting to note that aside from a few other handouts and a vague idea of the HP, these were my only notes for the mission.

  • Side note: I may have to use those for props if I run any game that needs ramblings of a mad man.

    All it needs are a few elder signs drawn in the margin. :-)

    Here are static events and causes I've used from two seperate sessions.

    Static Events
    3 Contact with Clarence Boscow.
    5 Clothes change/ signs change
    8 Control’s attitude becomes begins to change.
    10 Building catches fire and no one seems to notice.
    15 Control becomes contrary.
    18 Agents attacked by terrorists led by Ivan Slovasky.
    20 One of the terrorists is a rogue agent.
    21+ Spidermen Appear
    Static Causes
    Drink herbal tea
    Player sharpens pencil
    Agent goes to the bathroom (in or out of game)
    Agent talks to any Personality
    Agent talks to Ivan Slovasky
    Agents ignore/disobey control
    Agent fails the first roll when attempting an action
    Agent uses a Technique (except Seniority, which is used to reduce Static)
    Agent is insubordinate to the Lead Agent or fails to perform an order

    Static Events
    3 Contact with Clarence Boscow.
    5 Air-raid sirens go off and propaganda flyers fall from the sky.
    8 Control’s attitude becomes begins to change.
    10 A streetcar topples over and kills several.
    15 Control becomes contrary.
    18 Personalities faces melt away and Agents see DeMille’s face instead.
    20 Agent Miner Contacts Agents (DeMille is actually working for him).
    21+ Spidermen Appear
    Static Causes
    Agent buys something from Clarence Boscow.
    Agent sharpens pencil
    Agent goes to the bathroom (in or out of game)
    Agent talks to any Personality
    Agent talks to returns Vi’s attentions
    Agents take advantage of Steve Gonsalves’s aid.
    Agents ignore/disobey control
    Agent fails the first roll when attempting an action
    Agent uses a Technique (except Seniority, which is used to reduce Static)
    Agent is insubordinate to the Lead Agent or fails to perform an order
    Agents come into conflict with one another
    Agents encounter one or more of the Spidermen (+I Static per Spiderman)
