Ping, Tony, Phil and I were drinking beer and planning Go Play NW, and we came to an important conclusion: beer was good, and we weren't drinking enough of it.

Our other conclusion was that it would be jolly to get folks together before Go Play, just a social meetup to catch up, drink beer (again), talk smack about the awesome games you're going to run, all that.

Who's in? I missed the last one Mickey put together, but the beer meetups we had back in the day were a lot of fun.

I'm thinking Sunday May 23, evening, but I'm open to better ideas.

UPDATE The plan: Big Time Brewery, Sunday May 23, 7:30 pm.

I like Sunday the 23rd. Where?
  1.  # 3
Seattle needs beer, Portland has it. Come on down.
  2.  # 4
Don't try to make nice to us now Hans. You broke our hearts, skipping GPNW 2010. And for what, to get married? Selfish, man, real selfish.
  3.  # 5
OK, let's figure out where to have this thing! I'm a fan of the Elysian Brewery, cause it's near my house. Parking might be a challenge, but then again, Sunday!

I was leaning towards more of a minglely and less sit-down/menu place so people can more easily drop in and out and we don't need to concoct a huge table. I'm picking my brain for a reasonably quiet bar with nothing fancy but some beers, tables, and no music. Cafe Racer is top of my list but they have music of some sort. The Canterbury, The Lava Lounge...

That's a great idea, although not quite great enough to make me fly up there for the evening. I think SF Bay Area GoPlayers should get together that same day and time at Pacific Coast Brewery in Oakland, across from Endgame.

Not that I'm suggesting a drinking contest or anything like that. I'm not even looking at Ryan F. Macklin as I type this.

Big Time Brewery in the U Dist. might be a good spot.

Or The District Lounge in Hotel Deca, in the U District, for that matter. It's generally quiet.
  5.  # 11
I do like the Deca because of the quiet, though when we've gone there before it's been more sit down, less mingling. Big Time is attractive, but might be kind of loud. The creepy back room of Cafe Racer is excellent, and might still work even with music (maybe). I don't know anything about the Unicorn -- school us Ogre!

What/where's Cafe Racer? That's new to me.

I suspect the Unicorn will be loud and not conducive to mingling, but I haven't been there yet, so yes Ogre, if you know more about it, tell us.
  6.  # 13
I am definitely down with this idea and I would love to come. As for venue, I would prefer someplace where people won't be encouraged to get a lot of food. Beer is good for mingling and chatting, but that's not so much the case with big burgers and such.
    - Mike
  7.  # 14
Definitely Mike. I'm kind of leaning towards Big Time since you literally have to get up and walk over to the window if you want food.

Phil: yo Cafe Racer. The back room is like an '80s rec room. Or a pedophile's basement. I so want to game there.

I also have it on good authority that the lovely (yet dangerous) Shannon & Paul will be joining us. With enough booze Shannon may even reveal secrets from her GPNW dessert menu.

I am liking John's suggestion of Big Time as well. Mingley, free form, sandwich window, U-District. Good combos.

Big Time is game-friendly, too (board games happen there all the time). Just in case one breaks out.

Shannon is "lovely, yet dangerous" and I'm "and Paul," thanks ;)

I'm pretty sure buying Shannon even one cocktail will be more than adequate to learn of GPNW dessert secrets.

So, are you settled on Big Time? If so, when?

I'll be there, anywhere in Seattle is about the same drive from the East Side, so location doesn't make too much of a difference to me.
  10.  # 20
Ha! That was a collective "lovely, yet dangerous." You know I've always thought you were the lovely one Paul. Don't make me say it!

Sounds like we've got a quorum: Big Time Brewery, Sunday May 23, 7:30 pm.

There's sandwiches there, but we're shooting for drinking/mingling rather than locked-in-seats-in-front-of-plates.

Watch out, if Paul's lovely, that makes me dangerous. Don't get too close to my man, I'll eff your ess up. Grrrrrrrr...

Also, Paul's right, it wouldn't take a lot of booze to spill the secrets. AND OH WHAT SECRETS I HAVE.

In the SF Bay area we're gathering from 5pm onwards Sunday 5/23 at Pacific Coast Brewing in Oakland, across from Endgame. We're getting a head start so we'll have the advantage when the drunk dialing starts. Or something. Possibly we will tweet about it to @goplaysfbay or #gpsf or who knows.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

Portland is having a GoPlayPDX meetup on Saturday, so we'll be spent from actual gaming & drunk before you guys even start.

    We win.

If you cats think I'm gonna skip the Lost Finale to go drink with you at Big Time... uh, then I guess you're probably right.

I'm bringing the Lone Wolf Multi-Player Gamebook just in case.

Good times last night. We got about 15 people I think, but I'm still a little woozy from the gamer love.

    How'd Portland and SF go?

The first-ever GoPlaySFBay meetup (at Pacific Coast Brewing in Oakland) went very well. Between 5 and 7:30 we had 8 people: Albert, Ryan F Macklin, Chris H from Endgame, Karen, Eric, Carl, Vegas Doug, and The Bennett.

The Pliny the Younger had ominous bubbles, perhaps due to its 11% alcohol content. It was good to hang out and talk without the rush to get to a game, and I'm looking forward to more of them. Nice things were said about Pliny the Younger, John Harper, Fiasco, and other topics. We brainstormed names for Karen's Improv troupe, names best forgotten. Cruel things were said to and by Ryan, for great justice. Doug had intriguing things to say about story gaming at Neoncon in Las Vegas. Sadly too late I noticed Paul Tevis had offered to buy a round via twitter, so maybe next time for that.

    How'd Portland go?

    yeah - how'd Portland go?

Carl - glad to hear GPSF went swimmingly.

My report on our meetup? Prime Time Ale = Good. It was great to see everyone, many of whom I hadn't seen in a really, really long time. Jonathan, don't think I had so much to drink that I won't remember you promised some of us a Dogs game. :)

Presumably Portland got so drunk on Saturday that they haven't recovered enough yet to post here. OR, their meet-up failed and they're too ashamed to come here and admit they lost. Which is it, GoPlayPDX? Step on up!

Speaking of drinking, I feel I should point out that I did not have any alcohol that night, and yet I'm partly responsible for discovering Joe McDaldno's new game Have You Seen This Dog? ('Cause He Is Awesome). Make of that what you will.

Good to see everyone who made it out, missed seeing some more. I failed to introduce myself to someone whom I'm told was "spiritmage" Mike, so apologies for that. Hope you'll all be at Go Play NW proper in three(!) weeks!

woke up in an alcoholic fog some moments ago. first instinct was to post.

There weren't a lot of us there (less than 10), but we played:

-playtest: The Dreaming Crucible (Joel Shempert). "A storytelling game of youthful pain, adolescent transformation and fairy quests both beautiful and terrible." I played it and really liked it. I faded toward the end 'cause I was hungry and worried about being late for facilitating another game (which I was, but Brendan was cool about it). I really want to play it some more.
-playtest: 0 Hunters (Tyler Tinsley). Bounty Hunter game with a procedural structure. I didn't play this but I playtested it at Gamestorm and I'm looking forward to how it turns out. Tyler has all character sheets and rules stuff on pretty cards.
-playtest: The Tulip Academy Society for Dangerous Young Gentlemen (Nick Smith). Don't know what it's about, despite it being described to me. If I haven't played it, it falls out of my head. Looked really fun and swashbucklingly comedic, though!

-S/lay w/Me. Brendan & I played this. Love it. Want more. Read here.
-and the last 3 hardcore of us rounded it out with some XXXXtreme STREET luge. Redonkulous. In the best way.

We didn't drink because it was in a game store, but I had one of those mexican cokes that has way more sugar than is regulation, and I got kind of spacey and hot.
