Event registration for Go Play NW 2010 is now open!

    www.goplaynw.org

Yes, that's our shiny new website with all the info. Details like:

    • We've got a brand new venue. Yes, everyone loved last year's space, but instead of resting on our laurels we did some soul-searching, followed by some good old-fashioned gumshoe detective work, and found someplace even better. More quiet private spaces, more big communal spaces -- just more spaces of every kind. Whatever kind of environment you like to game in, there's probably more of it here.

    • 26 solid hours of gaming (and if you have the fortitude to game in every single session, you really do deserve a cookie, because you're a trooper)

    • the Friday Night Feast, the golden opportunity to get to know all the people you're going to game with. Mingle, chat and eat some food. Do not miss it.

Register early, and let us know you're in, because we really just can't wait to see who's coming.

    Team GPNW

    Chris Bennett,

A thousand layers of t-shirts will not save you from my inexorable march toward victory.

You will be left pantless. You will be left shirtless. The only thing that I will not take from you is your tears.

    *silence*

    Yes, it'll all be different.

I'm stoked to run Heart of Ashes, my game about children going on awesome adventures and facing difficult decisions, all while trapped in a fantasy world run by CRAZY ADULTS!
Also stoked to see all you fools.

Sadness: A Play in Two Acts

    ACT I

(NATHAN is sitting at his computer, reading Story Games)

NATHAN: Go Play NW 2010 registration is live, you say? Boy, does that sound like a fun time. I would love to see all those folks, it's been awhile. And now I live a couple thousand miles closer to Seattle than I used to. There must be reasonable air fare available!

    (NATHAN starts clicking)

    (BLACKOUT)

    ACT II

(LIGHTS UP: NATHAN is huddled over his keyboard, weeping bitter tears)

    NATHAN: ...so.....cold....

    END

If you're looking for a place to stay, we have a room block reserved at the Silver Could a few blocks away. There are also other options around town with varying prices and distances. I invite people to share where they've stayed in the past in this thread. Also, if you're really on a budget, there are several people in Seattle who are willing to host out-of-towners on their couches and in their guest rooms over the weekend, so speak up in this thread!

Here's some accommodations info on the Go Play Web site:

Here's a sneak peak of the new venue:

More pics on web site. Most of the rooms were in use when these pictures were taken (hence all the junk in the theatre), but this will give you an idea of all the different spaces we have to work with.

As Ping mentions on the blog, these were taken way back last July, on the hottest day in Seattle since the dawn of time. Yeah, that's right, the team was scouting new locations less than a month after GPNW 2009 was over. Hard. Core.

Good heads up from Chris B:

“There is a huge bicycle run from Seattle to Portland so we are fairly full already”

So you might want to jump on the room reservations sooner rather than later.

Let's see if we can get some clarification on this. I was talking to Chris and looked this up on the Web, and it looks like the bike run in JULY 18. Anyone more in the loop than we are who can figure out what the Inn was talking about?

Yeah, the Hugo House is pretty awesome. We'll retain all the aspects we liked about Freehold such as the private clubhouse feel and creative arts vibe, but improve in lots of areas like noise control (near the dance clubs, not over them) and more small spaces (everyone loved Freehold's library) just to name a few off the top of my head.

I am not finding reasonably priced accommodations as I did in the downtown neighborhood last year. The Silver Cloud rates are pretty high and the B&Bs in Capitol Hill are even worse. Anyone else having any luck?

Or people who know the area - moderate rate hotels in adjacent neighborhoods with a regular bus line or something?

Posted By: nemomemeOr people who know the area - moderate rate hotels in adjacent neighborhoods with a regular bus line or something?

Outside of Capitol Hill, I think your best bet is to look in the Downtown neighborhood, as close as you can to the Pike-Pine corridor (near the Washington State Convention Center). It's a quick straight shot up to Hugo House on the 10 bus or 11 bus or 15-ish minute walk. Here's a google map with the closest hotel to Hugo House in that area, the Homewood Suites, highlighted. Hugo House is at the big green park in the middle. I can't personally speak to their affordability.

    HTH

edit: Luckily, I suspect the closest to Hugo House, Homewood Suites, is also the most affordable for this area because it's the furthest away from tourist stuff like Pike Place Market and the waterfront.

Yes, downtown is probably your best bet. There are a number of regularly-running bus lines that go from there to the vicinity of Hugo House. Also, there are multilpe people in Seattle who have been willing to put visitors up for Go Play NW weekend.

Thanks, gang. I'll look downtown assuming it's okay with my roomie. I'd much rather walk and eat around Capitol Hill even if it means busing in from downtown. We'll have much better options there, and the Hugo House looks wonderful. Really looking forward to this.
  13.  # 43
Yes, Matt, downtown would be okay with your roomie :)

I had the luxury of staying with great folks the last two GPNWs, so I figured I should let someone else have that benefit this time around and not take up one of those spaces.

Depending on how much exercise / travel you want, the Hugo House looks like it's just up Pike Street from the Convention Center stop, which means you could potentially stay in any part of the city on that central 71, 72, 73, 74 bus route, which is the main artery from the U District to downtown, through the East Lake neighborhood.

Up on my side of town (U District, which would be like 20 minutes on the bus + 15 min walk to the stop from Hugo), there's the University Motel and, even cheaper, the hostel near the university that looks like a Shakespearean pub (and has great local beer on tap in the basement).

The U District is almost as exciting as downtown and probably cheaper to hang out in, so something to consider.
  14.  # 45
Good Point, John, and a 43 will also do you even better form most parts of the U district... just a couple blocks from Hugo House.

Everything at Teapot is both vegan and delicious. The vietnamese places in the area tend to have vegan tofu pho available. Any of the Thai restaurants will have vegan options. On the same block as Teapot there is also a fantastic vegan sandwhich shop called Hillside Quickies. Seattle is a pretty good place to live for veg* options.

I just found out that the owners of one of my current favorite vegan places in Seattle (Squid & Ink in Georgetown) have just opened up a new vegan cafe/bar/nightclub in Capitol Hill called Highline just four or five blocks from the Hugo House (210 Broadway East).

We've extended our hotel room block deadline by a week, so you've got until May 24 to take advantage of it.

    (thanks Ping!)
  20.  # 74
Ticket prices were supposed to go up on Monday, but we've decided to extend the discount all the way to the event.

Our thinking is that if money is tight for someone, they're more likely to have to wait until later to be able to pay for a ticket, but then the price would go up, which seems pretty cruel.

Registration is going great, so we figured we'd just let things roll as-is until we sell out.
