    It's been a while since Benhimself plugged directly the creation of the IRC channel, #playnow. I thought it was time to exhort people to come by and give the channel a try, especially after we've had some success getting games run.

    What games? Well, we've had:

    • Apocalypse World
    • Ninja Game
    • Microdungeons
    • War Inc!
    • Rock of Tahamaat
    • 3:16 — Carnage Amongst the Stars
    • Rock-Paper-Scissors
    • The Scenario
    • GHOST/ECHO
    • The Starflower Throne

    ... and various other little games that either remain nameless or have just slipped my mind for the moment.

    So why not drop by and run something, or suggest a game someone else might be willing to run? The channel has also become something of a hangout for Story Game regulars interested in just chatting about our favorite pastime. Just point your IRC client to irc.magicstar.net and join the conversation.

    It's still online. There are half a dozen of the regular lurkers online right now.
    I'd recommend you double check your connection settings.

    While I'm posting about Playnow, I don't suppose anyone's interested in running a wuxia action game over IRC? I'd kill to try Qin or Weapons of the Gods, or even Exalted.

    Just strikes me that each of the three games you've mentioned aren't particularly suited to the IM format, if only by way of their bulky rules. Someone, at the very least, needs to hack some Ghost/Echo for Wuxia, or maybe Trollbabe... Hmm. Get on it!

    I suppose you might be right. I don't think Qin is terribly bulky though.
    Still, I don't think Ghost/Echo or Trollbabe would suit my needs. I like the big lists of crazy powers. They feel very in genre to me.

    Now that this topic is on fire, I'd also add my FATE-based spy thriller game SHADOW ACTION, formerly known as Get Smart Now! It's fast and easy and I'm up to run it any time I'm around.

    The list of games organized is missing the most impromptu "play NOW" style game I've seen.
    Someone (I'm sorry for forgetting your name, but if you read this, speak up so we know how cool you are.) took my insane ramblings and turned it into an on the fly Don't Rest Your Head hack where I played a madman who had stolen and eaten J.F.K.'s shaddow in order to enact a campaign of supernatural revenge against the man who had ruined his career and stolen his fiance.

    Sadly I've lost the logs and can't remember all the awesome stats I had, but I do remember that the Madness/Nightmare dice were replaced with Kennedy dice, which meant my character would enevitably become Kennedy through over use of his shadow powers.

    Kudos to whoever was behind that one.
