Thanks for all the name submissions, folks!

If you want to participate in the contest, here's how you tap in. E-mail me your top 5 (or less, if you're interested in less, but MAXIMUM 5) game titles from the list below. Please send this email to: twogamesonename-at-gmail.com.

I will accept emails from now until Wednesday night, (10/14). If it's it not in my inbox by the time I wake up on Thursday, it's no good.

Once I know how many people are participating and I have the shortlists, I will use a popularity contest metric to create a list of game titles that is equal to the number of participants, and then everyone who's in will rank that list, and then I'll match you, and then you'll write some games.

If the math is working out wierd due to the proportion of entrants to the spread of names, I'll announce any changes as soon as it makes sense to do so. But I think this will work.

Feel free to kibbitz in this thread, but it's only official if it's in my email!

    The Names:

    Hey Nathan,

I don't see it spelled out one way or the other in your instructions, so I'll ask. Do you want our top five ranked now? Or do we only rank once you make your shortlist?

    Thanks, D

Top 5 do not need to be ranked, you're basically submitting your votes for the shortlist. You will be ranking the shortlist instead

Oh, also, you can list your own entries if you really want. Doesn't matter to me.

    Nathan,

I thought that the idea was to have two people writing each title. Ie, for each name there are two authors.

If you shortlist n titles, where n is the number of participants... doesn't that mean each person will have their own title?

In other words, shouldn't you shortlist n, where n is half the number of participants?

Hey Joe - the shortlist is get a list of "most popular" titles among the people actually participating, and then when they rank that list I will pair them up. So if 10 people end up participating, I'll have a list of 10 titles, only 5 of which will be used, but the 10 should give enough flexibility that people will end up with something that they like, even if it's not their first choice.

We have 22 contestants! That's so cool! So 11 of these names will be used.

22, that's lucky. It would have been a little awkward if it'd turned up odd.

Good luck in getting your choices guys.

Looking forward to this one. It's only a shame that I will only be able to use one of these titles 'cause there are several there that I love.

Two of mine made the short list! (Goblin Lovers and In Repose)

I want someone to do this: "Gear-Crazy: Giant Steam-Bots and the People who Love Them"
Well... I guess that means I want two people to do it.
The only problem is... I don't think I want to be the one doing it.

None of mine made the list, bur Gear Crazy is one of my picks. Why not keep a list of the titles you want to explore and work on them at a later time. I was under the impression that the names were given freely. At least mine were. While listening to a couple of Bare Naked Ladies CDs several of the lines in various songs stood out as great seeds for game titles you could build upon. I was thinking about making my own list to brainstorm about. Might not have even occurred to me otherwise if not for this two game one name project.

I'm really excited about this. The titles are excellent.

    Quick point of clarification.

I was under the impression that the names were given freely.

My names were not given freely. By using any name I suggested, you enter into a contract to give me half your total earnings*.

    Graham

    * Not just your earnings from the game. Half your total earnings for anything. It's retroactive.

I want someone to make Masks & Revolutions about super-'villains' and how they have kind of good goals - restructuring the world order - but are constantly pestered by super-'heroes'. See Darth Vader, Dr. Horrible, Cobra Commander:

"I'm not going to be ground under the wheels of big government!... I'm going to create an underground organization that will bypass government restrictions, and garner power through terrorism and extortion!... I won't stop until my organization coils around the whole world like a giant cobra!" -- Cobra Commander, circa. 1978

Also: Chained Souls made it through so far and looks tasty.

My names are given freely, with one caveat: Middle name. First child.

The only caveat for the titles I've offered is that I'd very much like to see what you do with them, at least the competition entry version but not necessarily the commercial release if there is one. My titles were 'A Hat Full of Rabbits' and 'Hell for Leather', and I've deliberately put them at the very end of my list 'cause I want to see what other people come up with. That's assuming they are used at all of course, there are some great titles in that list and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. If they don't get used I may well make a mini-game out of one or the other of them myself once the contest is over. Also, if either of my favourite two titles don't make it into the contest, I'll probably do something with those.

Attribution... not a bad idea, something I'll be happy to do in my entries, but not something I'd insist on for other people using my title.

I'm totally pro folks being inspired by the names outside of the contest! I myself have some favorites. Attribution and letting the names author know about it seems only fair, to me. Um, I guess as an officially thing, each person who submitted a name has actual IP authority over it, with the specific exception that they're allowing me to use it to run and promote the contest.

Well, I'm bummed! I totally missed this thread, and thereby missed the deadline for tapping in. I had the previous thread for this little contest bookmarked, and was following it; perhaps next time posting a notice and a link to the new thread in the original thread would be a good idea. Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to sit this one out; there's only one title on the short list that was inspiring me anyway.

Just as an FYI, names and titles are not protected by copyright (U.S. Copyright Office FAQ); so what anyone decides to do with any of the names/titles submitted as part of this competition is out of anyone's hands. However, giving attribution to the title's author is certainly the decent and courteous thing to do.

I gotta say that finding "How do I protect my sighting of Elvis?" as a question in the FAQ made me do a major WTF?! :D

It's all part of Elvis' one-man war against copyright.

I'm imagining that people will drop out, right? How about we have a reserve list and, when someone drops out, someone else can take their assigned title and thing?
